Rae Ocean is the face of a new breed of real estate agent. Young, enthusiastic, results-driven and customer focused.
Now in her fifth year working as a salesperson with the award-winning team at Ray White Whangarei, this proven performer is well-regarded for her exceptional work ethic, professionalism, knowledge and integrity.
Born to a Kiwi father and Taiwanese mother, Rae spent many years living in Taiwan and is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. Naturally competitive and driven to success she devoted a great deal of her early years to triathlon … and was competing internationally in the sport by the age of 13, representing Taiwan.
Moving to New Zealand as a teenager she quickly fell in love with the outdoors - hiking, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, diving, free diving, surfing, sea kayaking, sailing to name a few. At the age of 17 Rae packed her backpack and headed to the South Island where she spent 45 days walking from Picton to Queenstown on her own - this journey saw her featured on the cover of the Listener magazine.
By 18 Rae became a guide on the Franz Josef Glacier on the West Coast of the South Island before packing her backpack once again and heading to the West Coast of the United States. Here, her next journey took her through the desert, high alpine, volcanic peaks and forests as she trekked 4,000 km on foot from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail - an adventure which was documented online and attracted over 30,000 followers.
Returning to New Zealand as a 19 year old, Rae based herself in the Abel Tasman National Park where she worked as a hiking and sea kayak guide. With excellent time management skills and a strong customer focus she created rewarding and unique experiences for her clients.
Presented with another opportunity, Rae's father invited her to sail across the Pacific Ocean with him and, with no sailing experience, she took up the challenge - flying in a single engine plane to a tiny French Polynesian Island to join him. Despite getting seasick on the first night on the boat, her tenacity shone through and she quickly learnt how to sail - spending six months covering 5,000 nautical miles, sailing through 15 islands to bring the boat home to New Zealand.
Rae grew up in a household where property development, investments and residential renovations were a common topic of conversation and it was not uncommon for Rae to attend open homes and auctions or spend her summers with her father painting and doing up the family rental properties. Growing up in a family that knew the value of property, and having already taken a strong interest in her family's property portfolio she saw real estate as a natural progression. So, at the age of 20 this strongly self-disciplined, highly motivated and a quick learner turned her focus to the real estate industry - buying her first home and working as a Property Manager. She then progressed to sales with Ray White Whangarei, quickly growing her business and gaining national media attention for the sales of her first listings on Stuff News and Sunday Star Times.
Rae has quickly built a successful business based on recommendations and referrals, and still believes that the best way to predict your future is to create it.
Having purchased several properties now in Whangarei, and having recently completed a full renovation on her own home with husband David, Rae is proud to call Whangarei 'home'.
